When we were kids, our moms would tell us, "Do as I say, not as I do." As a social media and email-marketing consultant for small businesses, I spend a lot of time on my client's marketing and very little on my own. Which means, the advice I give my clients, I don't always follow for my own business. One piece of advice I give clients is, learn a few of the available tools and how to use them, and most importantly, be consistent and constant.
As businesses owners, we have specific marketing tools that we use, or ones that are our favorites. Mine are: Constant Contact, Facebook, my blog - followed by a few tweets on Twitter and the occasional Pinterest when called for. Facebook, I am consistent at. I am on it everyday - it's my marketing tool of choice.
My most favorite tool, the one I find most effective, is Constant Contact. I can actually see results when I use it. I get feedback from clients who tell me how much they appreciate the emails I send out, how grateful they are that I keep in touch and what a great job I do to keep them informed. And, my clients, whether I do it for them or they do it themselves, really see the value in using Constant Contact as one of their prime marketing tools.
My advice is to send out at least two emails a month. They don't have to be long complicated, over-sell, or boring. They don't have to take up a lot of your time. Email marketing is most effective when used consistently, and has valuable and useful information, with the occasional sales spiel thrown in. Great advice. Proven advice. And, yet, one even I don't follow. Why? Because time gets away from me. I do great with my clients, but then I run out of time and steam to follow my own advice.
My advice: do as I say, not as I do. There was a reason our moms told us that, I figure if it works for parents, it also works for us grown-up marketing consultants.

I don’t have to worry about getting our Cornet Bay Food Company’s news out when working with Alternative Inbound Marketing, because Karla, who I’ve worked with for many years, always makes sure that our Constant Contact postings are checked over and sent out in a timely manner, and her design work for our Constant Contact newsletter is wonderful.
